Herbert O. Espinoza, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Spanish, was born in Quito, Ecuador.  Dr. Espinoza received his doctoral degree from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), in 1984. Before joining the College of Charleston in 1987, he taught Spanish Language, Latin-American Literature, and Latin-American Civilization & Culture at the State University of New York (SUNY) from 1985-1987 and at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) from 1983-1985.

Currently, Dr. Espinoza is working on the English version of his second novel, Corvak's Crimes, originally written in Spanish (Los Crímenes de Corvak); and is also writing The Impossible Chronicles.  In 2000, Editorial Nuevo Espacio published his first novel, Un día después de la inocencia. In 1983, Maize Press published his bilingual collection of short stories, Viendo morir a Teresa y otros relatos. Additionally, he has published several short stories, poetry, and critical literary essays in several professional journals and in various newspapers. His literary interests include the 20th-Century Latin-American novel, modern Latin-American women writers, and Ecuadorian literature and history.
